The District encompasses 382 square miles in three Orange County cities located in Mission Viejo, Irvine and Tustin. Their campuses [Saddleback College, Irvine Valley College and Advanced Technology & Education Park (ATEP)] serve over 909,000 residents in 26 communities. Speaking on behalf of SOCCCD’s Facilities Planning Department is Mary Opel, Director of Site Development. She will share the District’s mission as to how they keep their schools on the cutting edge of educational design, planning and construction while balancing the needs of students, administrators and the community. Our program speakers shared an overview of current trends in healthcare and how they impact design, and explore how to support future trends in the rapidly changing landscape of healthcare.

The SMPS-OC Chapter provided a Level 1 course which gave an overview of InDesign and taught how to best prepare and approach the production and design of documents. Participants learned to work with objects, type and graphics. Those who completed this course, have a solid understanding and foundation for how best to maximize their efficiency when building your documents.

We continued our discussion about what is stirring up in Orange County with industry elites and decision-makers heavily involved with the major projects in the City of Tustin – including Tustin Legacy, Advanced Technology & Education Park (ATEP), FLIGHT at Tustin, and several more.

Orange County Water District’s Groundwater Replenishment System is one of the largest advanced water recycling projects in the U.S. — recharging our local aquifers and relieving our dependence on imported water supplies from Northern California. Participants had the opportunity to tour their facility and learn more about the advancements in “Indirect Potable Reuse,” and the recent decision to expand this facility in the coming year.

SMPS Orange County presented Part I of “Cityscape,” a 3-Part Series on Development in Orange County. We investigated what is stirring up in Orange County by inviting industry elites and decision makers from three of the major cities undergoing major development: Anaheim, Tustin, and Irvine.
Part I: Anaheim Development includes some of the major project development-surfacing headlines. Participants learned about relevant progress on Anaheim projects which include Anaheim Village Resort, Platinum Triangle, Anaheim Canyon, and more.
