Program Description

Be prepared to learn pro tips, suggestions, and advice from both a “client-facing” business development professional and a “non-client facing” marketing professional on how to effectively—and cleverly—approach clients, strategic pursuits, and everyday proposals. Panelists Kurt Yoshii, PE, GE, and Lauren Uyeno are industry veterans with experience, stories, and perspectives that will prove meaningful and useful for all career levels and focus areas.

Principal Engineer

Kurt S. Yoshii, PE, GE, CPSM, ENV SP, is a Geotechnical Engineer with over 30 years of experience.  He joined Ninyo & Moore as a Project Engineer 26 years ago and quickly rose through the ranks to become a Principal Engineer of the firm. As a “seller-doer” for Ninyo & Moore, Mr. Yoshii is involved in the complete cycle of project development from feasibility to final completion. He is responsible for both prime contract pursuits as well as teaming for subsonsultant roles.   He graduated from the University of California, Berkeley and is a licensed Civil and Geotechnical Engineer in California; as well as a licensed Professional Engineer in the Nevada, Utah and Colorado.  Mr. Yoshii is also a Certified Professional Services Marketer and an Envision Sustainability Professional.  He is very active in professional organizations and is currently the President of the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) California. He has also served as President for the Asian American Architects/Engineers Association, ACEC - Orange County Chapter, and the Society of Marketing Professional Services - Orange County Chapter.  Mr. Yoshii as also served as a Subject Matter Expert for the State of California Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, and Geologist for over 20 years.

Lauren Uyeno
Senior Marketing Specialist

With a passion for storytelling, Lauren believes it is a fundamental human experience that unites people and drives stronger, deeper connections. Over her 10-year A/E/C marketing career, she has had the privilege of crafting impactful messages for a wide range of market sectors, including transportation, community development, environmental services, and water resources. As a Senior Marketing Specialist aligned with key transportation clients, Lauren excels in managing strategic pursuits from positioning efforts, proposal production, and through client interview. She applies her decade of specialized A/E/C experience, strong industry knowledge, and education (MA and BA, Communications) to develop compelling proposals that resonate with clients.

Lauren has been recognized through Stantec’s internal Marketing/Communications/Public Relations Recognition (MCPR) Awards Program in both the Collaboration/Team Performance Category for a large rail pursuit in Los Angeles and Creativity Category for an internal companywide training session. 

Lauren is an active member with the SMPS Orange County Chapter and currently serves as the Hospitality Chair for the Women’s Transportation Seminar (WTS) Orange County Chapter.
